New Student and Family Handbook Published

Thanks to Farah, Michelle and the rest of the staff that contributed to the 2010-2011 Student and Family Handbook! This is a really important document that all families should read carefully. It has answers to most questions people have, and more importantly it gives specific information regarding how the school operates and expectations of students and families. There is a permanent link to the document in the “Useful Links” section in the lower left of the home page.

Educational Resource Street Fair

The Educational Resource Street Fair (ERSF), hosted by the People’s Institutional Baptist Church, will take place on Saturday, August 14th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on 24th Avenue between Alder and Yesler.

The ERSF is a social network of people helping parents, grandparents, caregivers and extended family members prepare their children for school.

To earn free school supplies students must be present and registered for the fair. Please bring your student ID and—if you registered online—confirmation number to the registration booth on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to pick up your student passport. If you have your online registration confirmation number you can use the express line to speed through the process.

Come have dinner and get your uniform shirts. Principal Thaxton will be there with many new and returning staff members. Hope you can make it!

FYI, current Madrona students Martina Davis, Martenus Davis, and Emma Hughes along with former Madrona students Jace Conroy and Emma June Orth will be playing in the 11/12 year old state all-star softball tournament this weekend at Valley Ridge Fields in Seatac. Game is 1pm Sunday! [from super-coach Jon Hughes]

It was nice to see the sun for a few days – hope all of you got a chance to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather!

If you have outgrown uniform shirts and/or bottoms, we would love to have your donation. The building will be open daily 8-2 and you can drop them off outside my office door if I’m not here.

If you would like to be removed from this email list, please reply to this email and I’ll make sure you’re removed from my list and the PTSA list as well.

Please welcome our new Principal Ms. Farah Thaxton to Madrona K-8! Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson announced the appointment in a letter to the community on May 7, 2010. A copy of the letter can be found here.
