Strategies for Success program: Library and Technology Lab open for student and family use, Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm. Teachers, staff and community volunteers are available for homework and technology help. Light dinner served in the library.

Notes:

 Foster Care License Training Scheduling

· Anticipating training to be provided in the next month.

· Training takes 27 hours in total.

· Orientation followed by core training.

· Recommended schedule: Tues afternoon/evening (4:30-9:30 pm) and Saturday day

· There are trainings at other locations that are weekend only. Information is available via the website.

· Training participants: one person in household has to go through training. Both adults have to go through CPR, first aid, and HIV training

· Ensuring that kids who get placed with our families are kids at our school. John allen, with the service can influence that placement, and the policy is to try to keep children within their community.

· You can be a licensed home or unlicensed. If unlicensed, you cannot have child in your home. Respite care is for shorter term situations vs. foster care, which involves longer term care.

· PTSA offered to assist with childcare and food for the training.

· Home license is renewed every three years. If moving, have to be relicensed.

· Continuing education is also required. Additional support groups are available which applies toward CE hours.

· If you are already CPR certified, you can show certification

Islandwood, Ms. Righi

· Requesting approximately $5000 for next year.

· Islandwood is a 4 night environmental camp on Bainbridge Island for 5th graders.

· They offer a 4-5 and5-6 program if we want to consider revising our coverage.

· Kaaren introduced the program and it’s been in place for 5 years.

· Approximately 98% of the 5th graders go. Students with medical conditions are fully supported.

· Opportunity to see kids in different environment, being scientists, and give them a new perspective.

· The days go from 8am to 9pm, with much environmental learning.

· Ms. Righi will be providing photos for the web site.

· Islandwood gives money to supplement the cost for the school.

· Islandwood is providing a learning kit to the teachers and comes to do professional development.

· One of their employees is doing graduate work with students at Madrona.

· If students don’t have necessary gear it’s all provided.

· Organic sustainable cooking is provided.

· No tv, radio, and no complaints.
