50th National Convention New Orleans Summer 2010
Greetings Madrona K-8 Families and Friends,
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded in 1913 on the campus of Howard University by 22 young women whose first public service act was to march in the 1913 Women’s Suffragette Parade in Washington, D.C. Today, there are 1,000 chapters around the world and 250,000 Delta women continue to sponsor public service activities. This summer, we held our 50th National Convention in New Orleans. In addition to conducting the business of our organization, we devoted one day to doing public service for several non-profits, including our partner, Habitat for Humanity, collected money to give 5 charities $10,000 each, honored our 10th National President and Civil Rights Activist-Dorothy L. Height and loved being in the company of 13,000 Deltas.
The Seattle Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Madrona K-8 have partnered since Spring 2007. Through the Madrona K-8 Panther Partners, we provide volunteers for special events, organize the Safeway eScrip fundraiser, sponsor the November PTSA potluck dinner, sponsor the MSP Family Breakfast, and run the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, an afterschool program for girls in middle school.
On behalf of our chapter president, Robin S. Green, and chapter members, we are looking forward to another exciting year serving teachers, students and YOU! If you are new to Madrona, welcome. If you are returning, welcome back.
Sincerely,
Victoria E. Romero, Ernestine Rutledge and Wanda Lofton
